INSTRUCTIONS
This exercise is designed to prepare students for character sculpting by first developing a character design concept in digital drawing. Students are required to demonstrate understanding of anatomy, proportion, and creativity through sketches and a polished final design. Consultation is compulsory to monitor progress, and attendance will be taken digitally and manually as precaution.
Assessment Brief
- Before starting on sculpting, students are required to produce a Character Design Concept that demonstrates their understanding of anatomy, proportion, silhouette, and visual storytelling.
- The task is to design an original humanoid or stylized character that could be developed into a 3D sculpture.
- Student can choose their character design which are, humanoid, stylized character, heroes, & creatures.
TASK
For the very first task I needed to create a concept that will later on be sculpted in 3D (Zbrush) and so I needed to find references for a moodboard. My goal was to create a bulky and muscular creature that is mindless and just an empty husk of violence. The lore of it is that the creature is a failed experiment and the creature went berserk.

Next, I started the exploration for the silhoutte and body type to see which one will be best. From a skinny looking monster to a bulky beast as well as combining several different aspects.
Figure 2.2 Silhoutte exploration
After choosing the optimal shape, I started the actual sketching process. I created 3 different looks for the creature, and for the designs, I didn't go that crazy with it because i wanted it to be grounded. The first design is the beast after transformation with the tattered clothes, second one is the creature during the prison/bunker escape and the final one is when the creature went into hiding where it has shredded cloth.
Figure 2.3 Outfit exploration
I went with the prison escape design because I feel like it looks really cool and so I went with that and started the coloring process for the default pose and dynamic pose. I tried to incorporate some brutality to the concept and so I added in wounds and blood splashes.

REFLECTION
This was a very exciting start for me actually because I really like creature design in 3D. At first I thought that we needed to create a human character for this module but the lecturer gave us creative freedom and said that we can go with our idea as long as it involves anatomy. I am really excited for the upcoming task because it is gonna be fully 3D and so I am eagerly waiting
