LECTURES

We were taught the basics for composition such as the golden ratio and the rule of thirds, these basics could help us achieve a desirable look and achieve aesthetics. Focal points were also a part of the discussion, this has relations to the elements that are present inside the picture.

TUTORIAL

PROJECT 1A: COLLAGE DESIGN ELEMENTS

1. Choose the identity your collage's design elements to be cut out and compose it into your own concept & story
2. Pre compositing your collage's design elements into a composition

PRACTICAL

Starting the project i immediately knew that the concept of nature and humans would be perfect for a collage because it could convey a deep meaning in a beautiful way.

Pre-Composition 1st

For this 1st composition i tried making a head that spills out a garden, because of the limited materials, i needed to be creative with the usages. This collage is suppose to symbolize death where it benefits the vegetation around, it gives a new meaning to death where it is not sad but beautiful because it helps the environment to grow.

Pre-Composition 2nd

for the 2nd composition, i attempted on making a simpler looking collage, placing flowers around the head and have a coral pooping out of the head to symbolize a brain. Overall the collage's theme is about the peacefulness in mind and to enforce that idea, i gave the collage some flowers on the bottom part.

Pre-Composition 3rd

For the last composition i attempted on making a human that is thinking about the wonders of the ocean. By making the elements as if they are spilling out from the humans head and also giving the "Exploring the deep" text on its eyes to give it more context for the viewers.

REFLECTION

Before starting the particular exercise, I wasn't very familiar with collages, but after learning a few key elements it became clear that collages can be an abstract way to convey a specific message. By utilizing certain element we could express different things if executed correctly, Overall it is a very fun and interesting exercise.

EVENT

Figure 5.1  The event

During the event we saw the works of the seniors, there was a variety of them from different clothing designs to the showcase of the specializations that are available in creative media.

We participated on the mural competition where we use different coloring mediums such as crayons, coloring pencils, and etc. The concept of the mural was unity and because of that our team went with the idea of different people from different cultures dancing and singing together with different music instruments present. During the sketching process, everything went well but when we started coloring the problems started emerging, the crayons didn't blend well with the colored pencils but of course we kept going but then time ran out and we didn't manage to finish the mural.

The competition lasted for 2 hours and it was very intense and even though our team didn't win we still had a lot of fun.
