LECTURES
Week 7 : For this week we were taught about techniques that we could use for our project later on such as intertwine, turning the object or letters into a 3D object and giving some materials and also clipping mask.

Week 8 : Independent learning week
Week 9 : Mr. Hafiz gave us an option for feedback or we can just go out of the class if we don't need it
Week 10 : No class

TASK
Research and ideation
One of the artists that really gave me an idea is Wim Crouwel. He is very notorious for his simple but effective typography work and because of this, it really inspired me to make something that is not very extraordinary in terms of design, but it still holds weight.
Before starting anything, i made some research to find which concept i want to go with. Because my theme is about nature and climbing, i decided that i needed to go with a mountain design so that the word design fits the background.
Next, i tried to find which look would suit the letters best and i decided to go with the rocky terrain look. After doing some digging, i found this rocky letter look and i tried to go with look but with less roughness.
Sketch
I made a really simple sketch where there are mountains on the background with trees and put the quote in front.
Digitalization
I began this task by choosing which sans-serif font fits best, and went with Oswald because of its modern look. I used a regular, medium, semi-bold, and bold fonts where i arranged them from thickest to thinnest, i made sure to make it subtle.

I moved on to converting the look from 2D to 3D by giving it the 3D and materials effect. I chose the natural terrain look to give it more of a rocky vibe and made some changes to the angle of the words and the depth.

After that i moved on to making the shadows by duplicating it and mirroring it upside down. After that i created outlines for the words and then used the free transform tool to find the correct positioning.

Next, i fix the individual shadows of each letter so that it properly aligns with the quote. After that i changed the positioning more and and made the opacity lower to achieve a more realistic look

Up next was to make some small rock particles to make it as if there are pieces of the letter falling off. I made the shapes using the pen tool and gave it a 3D look with the natural terrain material. I made a variety of them, where each of them have a unique shape and placed it all over.

For the next step, i made some distortions to the letters by using the shapes builder and pathfinder so that it looks more organic.

For the final step, i added my self on to the text. I added 3 pictures of myself, made the shadows for them so they look more believable. I execute these in photoshop because i am not sure if its entirely possible to neatly crop an image or to make proper color adjustment to photos with different lightings.

REFLECTIONS
EXPERIENCE :
Overall, it is a very interesting exercise that is different from past IVN projects because we design letters instead of traditional shapes. I was not very used to designing letters in this specific way and because of that i was confused, but after some experimenting and doing some research, I manage to make an interesting design that i am happy with.
OBSERVATION :
I was quite surprised that Adobe Illustrator has the option to make 2D object into a 3D objects. We are also able to apply certain materials to it so that it meets our purpose and could fit into our design. I applied it to my design and it works quite decently.
I realised that you could manipulate objects perspective and you are able to distort it by using the free transform tool. It is very useful because it is very straightforward and easy to use. I mainly use it to align the shadows to the font so that it could fit properly.
