Reflection
Experience :
This is my first time ever learning about typography, and at first, I thought it was going to be really simple. But after spending some time learning about it, I realized there's so much more to it. On the surface, typography may seem easy, but when I dive deeper into it, I see that it has its own complexities that need to be understood for improvement. While doing task 2, I realized that creating a layout that actually stands out is pretty tricky. From designing the headline to placing the paragraphs, every detail needs attention. If it’s not done right, the layout can end up feeling unbalanced. During the process, I felt a bit intimidated because I never imagined I'd be creating my own font with my own style of writing. But in the end, it was really interesting to see the step-by-step process of making a font and how much thought goes into typography.
Observation ;
I realized that we need to be really careful when it comes to typography. We have to pay attention to every detail, like when choosing fonts—we need to understand the main context before deciding which font to use. From my observations, something as simple as the placement of the letters can really make a headline stand out without needing much change. As long as it’s effective and conveys meaning, it can work. I found out that making the punctuations is actually quite tricky because they have their own rules that we must follow, and I wasn’t aware of this until Mr. Vinod pointed it out.
Findings :
During my time in typography, I've received multiple feedbacks, and they’ve helped me tremendously in improving my skills. I’ve learned about the usage of different fonts, the importance of kerning, and how to create a better layout so that readers have an easier time reading. I also found out that condensed typefaces can actually reduce readability, so it’s better to stick with other fonts when we can. Details are actually quite important, but if you add too much, it can look over the top, and that’s something we want to avoid when creating our own style of writing.
